More people need help over benefit cuts

CHARITIES are having to cope with the problems of poverty caused by government benefit cuts, says the chief executive of Citizens Advice Woking.

Her bureau has seen an increase in numbers seeking help due to cuts which result in fuel poverty and referrals to food banks, said Lorraine Buchanan.

She was speaking on Saturday during a debate in Woking entitled Why Are People Living in Poverty in Britain Today?

The event in Christ Church, organised by the Woking Debates committee, was also addressed by Sarah Goddard from Christians Against Poverty and the borough council’s Liberal Democrats leader, Will Forster.
