Corrs blimey! Irish legends overwhelmed by support on their return

LEGENDARY Irish music family The Corrs are back after a 10-year absence – and say it’s like they’ve never been away.

The siblings – Andrea, Sharon, Caroline and Jim Corr – made their name in the late ’90s with hits like Dreams, What Can I Do, So Young, Runaway and Breathless. But they stopped recording and playing live in 2005 because Jim and Caroline were raising families, while Andrea and Sharon pursued solo careers.

They returned in November last year with new album White Light, followed by a world tour, and Sharon says: We were aware that we had been missed and we poured our hearts and souls into making this new record.

“But, as always, there are no guarantees you just have to do your best work – we were thrilled with the reaction!

“The tour was amazing – so much love in the audience and the reviews and reaction from the records were amazing.”

The band’s first gig after 10 years was an outdoor show at London’s Hyde Park and she adds: “All gigs are amazing – performing is the greatest feeling in the world! – but Hyde Park was so special.

“Sixty thousand people singing along to Runaway was the most incredible feeling. I know we all started to well up at that point – so much love from the audience.” Violinist Sharon says The Corrs are also attracting new fans alongside those who followed their career before.

“We seem to have held on to our fans and made some new ones,” she says. “The crowd reaction has been amazing. I think as a band we’ve matured a lot and I think the crowd can really feel how much we love what we are doing and that’s infectious – there truly is nothing like making music and performing it to an enthusiastic crowd.”

The family members are definitely enjoying working together again and Sharon explains: “We laugh so much! As soon as we get together we just enjoy every moment and savour it.

“Making music together is very special and we missed that. We love being on the road – it’s like this bubble of creativity and you get to live outside the routine – which I adore.”

This summer’s gigs by The Corrs will include two visits to Surrey – An Evening at the Races at Epsom Downs racecourse on Thursday 30 June and Kew The Music at Kew Gardens on Saturday 16 July.

Sharon says: “Anyone coming along will hear all our hits and songs from White Light too – we’ll also break it down to a small acoustic section which make its very organic and is a special moment every night.”

And she says she’s very happy to be heading for Surrey… “Yes, the countryside is very beautiful– gorgeous little perfectly preserved towns and delicious gastro pubs with local produce…”
