Guildford City’s unbeaten run in the league came to an end when title favourites Infinity won 4-2 at the Spectrum.

An early clearance went straight to Guildford’s Sandy Perera, whose quick shot forced a good save out of Matt Gregg. Soon afterwards Josh Williams dispossessed a defender but shot low against Gregg’s legs.

Infinity took the lead on 21 minutes. Zack Willetts, who had already spun and turned a cross over the bar, found the back of the net with a first-time effort.

Willetts’ acrobatic overhead kick went wide, Owen O’Neill shot over and a powerful low effort was brilliantly saved by Jacob Slyfield.

Guildford pressed but Dan Way’s excellent cross found nobody in the box, then Williams ran down the left and shot wide of the near post.

On 43 minutes Infinity went two up when a back post cross was headed home by Lewis Beale. Infinity scored again in stoppage time, a forceful free kick from near the corner flag flying over everybody into the top corner.

Guildford brought on debutants Henry Woods and George Bamgboye at half-time and scored within three minutes, Williams and Bamgboye combining for Bamgboye to turn the ball home.

Willetts broke through and his pile driver forced an excellent save from Slyfield, before Infinity scored their fourth on the hour. Guildford’s defence was left stranded from a cross and Josh Cooper smashed the ball home.

Slyfield saved well twice and on 67 minutes Guildford almost scored again, Williams’ toe poke nearly crossing the line before being cleared. Bamgboye looked dangerous and Williams was also a threat.

Slyfield saved again to prevent Evan Harris firing home, then on 82 minutes Ronnie Lee delicately lobbed home his first Guildford goal.

In the final moments Slyfield made two further cracking saves at the end of a superb attacking display by Infinity.
