Ten-man Woking slipped to a 4-2 defeat at home to Solihull Moors in the National League.

Matt Ward and John Marquis were on target for the Cards, but goals from Jake Wakeling, Jamie Andrews (2) and Scott High gave the Moors all three points in front of a crowd of 2,020 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

The Moors took an early lead in the sixth minute when High’s through ball played Wakeling in on goal, and Wakeling’s left-footed finish beat Cards keeper Will Jaaskelainen at his near post.

The Cards almost got back on level terms two minutes later when Ward cut inside from the right and hit a left-footed shot goalwards which was deflected over the bar for a corner.

Woking went close again from the resulting set piece when Steven Turner’s delivery found Shadrach Ogie at the back post, whose header went wide of the left-hand post.

The Cards had another opportunity on ten minutes when Turner slipped a pass through to Josh Kelly, whose right-footed shot from outside the box was gathered by Solihull keeper Max Metcalfe at the second attempt.

Woking did get back on level terms in the 22nd minute when Roy Syla played a ball through to Ward, who drove forward and fired a right-footed shot goalwards which had too much power for Metcalfe and flew past the Solihull keeper into the back of the net.

The Cards went 2-1 up on 25 minutes when Kelly’s pass played in Marquis, who calmly slotted his right-footed finish across goal past Metcalfe into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

Solihull responded immediately to going behind and got back on level terms two minutes later when former Card Andrews drove into the box and hit his left-footed finish across goal past Jaaskelainen into the right-hand corner of the net.

The Moors went 3-2 up in the 45th minute when Wakeling’s pass found High, whose superb right-footed shot from the edge of the box flew past Jaaskelainen into the right-hand corner of the net.

The Cards nearly equalised in first-half stoppage time when Ogie's left-footed shot was saved by Metcalfe, before Jaiden Putman’s follow-up was blocked.

Woking boss Craig Ross made one change at half-time, with Aiden O’Brien replacing Turner.

The Cards nearly equalised in the opening minute of the second half when Putman’s corner found O’Brien, whose glancing header went just wide of the far post.

Woking had another opportunity on 50 minutes when Putman cut inside from the left and hit a right-footed shot goalwards which Metcalfe gathered at the second attempt.

The Cards were reduced to ten men in the 56th minute when Putman was sent off by referee Jason Richardson for kicking out at Joe Sbarra.

Ross made a double change on 61 minutes, with Liam Dulson and Jake Forster-Caskey replacing Kelly and Timmy Akinola.

The Cards created an opportunity three minutes later when Ogie’s long throw was cleared to Syla, whose deflected effort from the edge of the box was held by Metcalfe.

Woking went close from a set piece in the 76th minute when Forster-Caskey’s free-kick found Chin Okoli, whose header was held by Metcalfe.

The Moors effectively wrapped up all three points a minute later when Andrews clinically drilled his left-footed finish from the edge of the box into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Ross immediately made a double change, with Harrison Sohna and Anthony Georgiou replacing Syla and Timi Odusina.

The Cards nearly pulled a goal back in stoppage time when Dulson played in Sohna, whose effort rattled the right-hand post. Marquis then put the rebound wide.

The visitors held on to claim all three points and end Woking’s five-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Next up for the Cards is a trip to Eastleigh in the National League on Saturday, October 3 (3pm kick-off).
