A Woking schoolgirl has turned her love of making things into a fundraising project.

Nine-year-old Arielle, who attends Knaphill School, began making bag charms for her friends over the holidays then decided to use her new venture to raise money for Steps, the charity that supported her with her hip dysplasia, whilst also working towards her Brownies charity badge.

She is now making personalised name charms and themed designs, with 100 per cent of the profits going to Steps.

Her contribution is being matched by a backer who prefers to remain anonymous and her parents are covering most of the costs.

Arielle has already raised more than £200 before matching.

“I’m really glad to be able to support Steps, as they supported me when I needed it most,” Arielle says. “I am proof that if you put your mind to something you can do anything.”

Mum Jemma adds: “Arielle has always loved being creative and making things.

“She began making bag charms as gifts for family and friends, then developed the idea of turning her hobby into a fundraising project.

“She loves experimenting with beads, colours and designs, and has made name charms as well as themed charms, including sports, stars and hearts. It has been lovely watching her creativity and confidence grow.

“We are very proud of Arielle for using her love of craft and creativity to give something back.”

A spokesperson for Steps said: “Arielle making charms for others and donating the proceeds to support our charity is truly heart-warming.

“It is such a generous thing to do, particularly when she understands first-hand the impact that the condition can have.”

Charms are: £5 for a six-letter name charm, including the letters and divider beads; 50p for each additional letter/divider over six letters; themed charms 50p each.
