Diamonds are a buyer’s best friend

DIAMONDS and sapphires stole the show at Ewbank’s recent spring auction of jewellery and watches. With more than 600 lots going under the hammer, it was the biggest jewellery auction ever hosted by the Surrey auction-house.

“We are seeing a growing appreciation of jewellery from the 1970s, with pieces by known makers and those of abstract designs being particularly desirable,” said Andrea Machen, Ewbank’s jewellery specialist.

“Jewellery, which, in the past, was sadly sometimes overlooked and sent to be scrapped has caught the attention of younger buyers.”
