Bringing ballet to a young audience

CREATING a special ballet aimed at children is definitely not an easy option, according to English National Ballet choreographer Antonio Castilla.

“Children are truly honest which means they can be one of the toughest audiences!” he says. “For me this means I also want to be truly honest – with both the story and the choreography. It’s a challenge but also very rewarding.”

English National Ballet and English National Ballet School are bringing a new version of the well-known classic, Swan Lake, as part of its My First Ballet series to the New Victoria Theatre, Woking, on Saturday 12 May and Sunday 13 May, created especially for children as young as three.
