Agatha Christie will be celebrated when Between The Covers Live! comes to G Live in Guildford on October 11 at 7.30pm.

The stage version of the BBC2 book club show Between The Covers will be hosted by Amanda Ross, with Ben Miller, Lucy Foley and Gavin and Stacey writer Ruth Jones on the panel.

Amanda said: “G Live is one of my most exciting dates as we’ve got Ruth Jones. I think people would turn up just to see her read the telephone directory.

“At Pennyhill Park she wanted to purge the spirits of the England rugby team by singing the Welsh national anthem. She wrote Gavin and Stacey and can’t help doing impressions of her character.”

Amanda explained how the show will work for the audience.

She said: “It’s an extension of our BBC2 book club, hosted by Sara Cox. It’s the ultimate fantasy book group.

“The principle of the show is to bring your own book that you absolutely love and want to share with other people.

“You can come by yourself and bring a book, which is an excuse to talk to other people. A lot of them said we’ve come on our own, met other people and formed our own book club. It’s a great excuse for social engagement.”

Between The Covers Live! will be celebrating Agatha Christie on the 50th anniversary of her death and the publication of the last Miss Marple book.

The Agatha Christie estate has asked Lucy Foley, who has sold 12 million books worldwide, to write a new Miss Marple novel.

Amanda said: “She’s a modern crime thriller writer but she’s written it very much in the vein of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple.”

Of the show, she added: “So we’re going to talk about Agatha Christie or things related to Agatha Christie. Everyone is influenced by Agatha Christie - plotting, denouement, how things are carefully crafted.

“We’re very lucky with the panel because Ruth Jones is incredibly entertaining and Ben Miller’s best known roles are influenced by Agatha.

“It’s an inclusive book club. We will play a couple of games. It’s an entertaining show about books and you will be entertained by the lovely people on stage.

“At some of the venues we’ve got James Prichard, who is Agatha Christie’s great-grandson, and he’s going to muscle in on Guildford because he knows Ruth Jones will be on the panel!”

Amanda said Agatha Christie had sold two billion books worldwide, and had only been outsold by Shakespeare and the Bible.

She added: “They are a bit of a history lesson but they are all about people and people’s DNA - the same love, jealousy and hate - so let’s see where we are in a few hundred years’ time with those sales figures. There’s still murder, jealousy and blackmail. People don’t change, even if they have mobile phones.”

And Amanda said of G Live: “It’s a lovely venue. It’s great and we’re all really looking forward to it.”
