Price is right for town’s festive switch-on

WOKING has cashed in with a big name set to light up the town at this year’s  Christmas Light Switch-on.

Model turned panto star Katie Price will illuminate Jubilee Square in more ways than one when she presses the button alongside Santa himself on Thursday (November 19).

The festivities, which get underway at 1.30pm, feature a total of 16 different acts leading up to the big switch-on at 7pm, with more than 60 individual performers already on the bill.

Katie, who this winter is starring as the Wicked Fairy in the New Victoria Theatre’s production of Sleeping Beauty, will be flanked throughout the day by other famous faces, including CBBC’s Swashbuckle, a host of Peppa Pig characters, and an energetic performance from Milkshake! Live.

Performers from the local Summerscales and Woking Dance Theatre groups, plus singers from Remix Adult, Gordon’s School and Brookwood Primary School Choirs have also been drafted in to share the spotlight with the celebs.

As well as opera singer Jane Cuva, kids’ favourite Lalaloopsy, The Bouncing Elves, Toy Soldiers and Ice Maidens, there will be free face painting for all who attend.

Rowen De Grauw, Customer Experience Manager for Woking Shopping said that the event gets bigger and better each year.

“This time around we have more acts than ever before and we are sure that with Peppa Pig, Milkshake, Swashbuckle and the Wicked Fairy, along with fireworks and other amazing displays, it’s going to be a great event for the whole family.

“This year stores will be open until 8pm and local restaurants will also be welcoming in people after the switch-on too, so there are plenty of reasons to come down and make a real night of it, making Woking Shopping your destination of choice this Christmas.”
