The Price is light down at a festive Jubilee Square

THOUSANDS turned up to Jubilee Square to witness the official launch of Christmas in Woking by TV celebrity Katie Price.

But probably the most popular face of all, Santa Claus himself, delighted the younger crowds when he also pitched up.

Katie, who is currently playing The Wicked Fairy in the New Victoria Theatre’s panto Sleeping Beauty, switched on the festive lights at Woking Shopping.

When she pressed the magic button, the town centre skies flickered into life in an plethora of
glittering twinkles , shimmers and sparkles, as the Christmas pine tree glistened in the night.

An unexpected flurry of ‘snow’ showered the crowds, culminating in a spectacular firework display and putting a triumphant topping on the festive feeling.

The family extravaganza on Thursday last week featured 16 different acts and involved more than 60 performers leading up to the big switch-on at 7pm.

As well as Katie and Saint Nicholas taking centre stage, there were performances from different Summerscales Performing Arts groups, as well as from children’s favourite TV characters such as Peppa Pig, CBBC’s Swashbuckle, the team from Channel 5’s Milkshake! Live, and an assortment of familiar fictional faces.

Customer Experience Manager for Woking Shopping, Rowen De Grauw, said: “This event gets bigger and better each year with thousands of families coming to see the lights go on and join us to celebrate the festivities.

“This year we had more acts than ever on the stage creating a great show for all the family.”

All in all it was a cracking launch to the Christmas season in Woking.
