Thieves take £2,500 haul in St John’s robbery

A CO-OP store in St Johns was the scene of a robbery on Sunday.

Officers were called to the St Johns Road shop after three men entered the premises shortly after it opened at around 7.10am and detained terrified members of staff.

One employee had their hands bound by one of the offenders before being locked, along with coll-eagues, in a small storage room.

The intruders demanded money from the safe and escaped with more than £2,500 in cash, a large amount of cigarettes and
a quantity of postage stamps.

The trio, who were all wearing balaclavas, made off in the direction of Warwick Lane and St Johns Hill Road.

One of the raiders has been described as black, tall, of a very heavy stocky build and wearing a large black quilted coat with the hood up, dark blue jeans with worn knees, white trainers and dark gloves.

The second man is described as Asian, shorter than average height, of athletic build with broad shoulders and a slim waist.
He was wearing a black top with silver zips on the pockets and waistband, black trousers, black trainers with white soles and dark gloves.

The third man is either black or Asian and of average height. He was wearing a black coat with the hood up, dark grey trousers – possibly tracksuit bottoms – a baseball cap with a blue peak, black shoes with red stripes on the sides and bright green gloves.

Detective Constable Neil Winter, said: “Understandably this was an extremely frightening experience for the staff, and I would ask anyone who saw something suspicious, either around the time of the offence or the days prior to the incident, to share this information with officers.

“Similarly, I would urge anyone with information as to who is responsible to contact police – any details could prove to be vital in bringing those responsible to justice.”

A number of enquiries are being carried out in relation to the incident, but anyone who can assist further is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 45150108208.
