Hospice heroes step to the fore and save the day!

THE Midnight Walk has been saved after Woking & Sam Beare Hospices issued a desperate plea for help.

The charities had been left in the lurch by Newcastle company ‘We Can Brand It’ ahead of the biggest fundraising event in their calendar (20 May), with just 100 of their 1,000 printed promotional T-shirt order making its way down from the North East after seven weeks of wrangling and broken promises.

Having already paid for the order in full, the Woking team were dealt a further blow when it transpired that the company were in financial turmoil and any chances of a refund were slim.

With cap in hand, they sent out a cry for help; pleading with local do-gooders to foot the bill for new T-shirts and local printers to take on the job at the eleventh hour.

Danielle Le Cuirot, the hospices’ Event Manager, said the response was staggering and heart warming.

She explained: “We asked local suppliers to get in touch if they were able to ‘help save the event’ and provide the T-shirts quickly for a good rate – 14 companies came forward to help us with reduced rates.

“After hearing our sad news, Curchods Estate Agents was one of the companies who reached out to see if they could help save the day.

“Having secured funding, they have agreed, jointly with their business partner Aaron Printing, to supply this year’s Midnight Walk T-shirts at no cost to the hospices.

“Had we not received the offer of free T-shirts, the profit from the event would undoubtedly have been affected.

“I just hope that by speaking out, other charities will be able to identify the signs and be more careful when approaching suppliers to prevent things like this happening.”

Focus can now turn to next month’s event, which annually pulls in close to £100,000 each year.

“Staff at Curchods are delighted to have been able to offer our help and support to such a fantastic event,” said a company spokesman.

“We wish all those taking part in the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Midnight Walk the best of luck and look forward to seeing everyone in their Curchods and Aaron Printing sponsored T-shirts.”
