The fix-it fund for holy roofs

PLACES of worship in the borough, including churches, mosques, temples and synagogues, can apply for a new £15 million fund that is being made available for the repair of roofs and guttering.

Government announced the ‘Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund’ in their Autumn Statement, and grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 are now available to listed places of worship of all denominations across the UK – if repairs to their roof are deemed to be ‘urgent and necessary’.

The Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Woking, Chris Took, is encouraging local religious leaders to make a bid.

Chris said: “Places of worship play a huge part in the lives of many in Woking, and this fund will help to ensure that some of our most significant buildings remain open to all as safe and sustainable community places.

“I intend to write to all places of worship in Woking to make them aware of this new scheme, and I hope that some of them will be able to take advantage of this welcome additional money.”
