CCTV image released in connection with assault in Byfleet

Assault Appeal

SURREY Police have released pictures of a man they want to speak to in connection with a serious attack in Byfleet which left a man with serious head and back injuries.

Officers are hoping that someone will recognise the suspect, who police would also like to speak to in connection with the theft of beer from a petrol station in Addlestone on the same night.

Police said the assault took place in Chertsey Road, Byfleet, around 11-15pm on May 6 when the suspect followed the victim’s car along Oyster Lane, eventually overtaking and causing it to stop.

The suspect then put his reversing lights on and the victim decided to pull out of the way for his and his occupants’ safety and turned into Chertsey Road.

As the victim got out of his car, the suspect did a hand brake turn and drove towards him and collided with him.

The victim was thrown into the air as a result of the impact and suffered head and back injuries. The suspect drove off along Oyster Lane towards Addlestone.

Police said the suspect is also believed to be responsible for the theft of a four pack of beer from the Total petrol station in Chertsey Road, Addlestone around 10-15pm on the same night.

He is described as a white male, aged approximately 20 years, 5ft 5 tall, average build with short brown hair and wearing blue jeans, Adidas shoes, a dark jacket and a white top.

Detective Constable Paul Harris said: “We have carried out extensive enquiries into this incident and now believe that the same man was also responsible for the theft of some beer on the same night.

“We are releasing the CCTV images from the petrol station in the hope that someone will come forward with some information which will progress our investigation and hopefully bring the offender for this vicious assault to justice.”

If you can help, please contact DC Harris at Surrey Police on 101 quoting crime reference number WK/11/3169 or, if you prefer to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
