The charity behind the Bernard Sunley care home in Woking has been nominated in two categories at the 2026 National Care Awards.

Friends of the Elderly has been shortlisted for Care Home Group (Small) and care homes director, Cheryl Rothschild, shortlisted for Care Operations / Area Manager of the Year.

The National Care Awards are among the care sector's most respected awards, recognising organisations and individuals who demonstrate excellence, innovation and outstanding commitment to the people they support.

Friends of the Elderly operates seven care homes supporting 194 residents through residential, nursing and dementia care.

The charity also provides day care services and a grants programme for older people experiencing financial hardship, giving the organisation a broad understanding of the challenges older people and their families face.

Cheryl, who has worked at Friends of the Elderly since 2002 and has more than 30 years’ experience in care, oversees the charity’s seven care homes. She has led a number of quality improvement and dementia care initiatives.

The winners will be announced at The National Care Awards on 6 November at The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
