For 50 years, Woking Lions have been putting their motto “We Serve” into action by supporting local people, community organisations and charitable causes through fundraising, generosity, and countless hours of voluntary service.
To celebrate this remarkable milestone, a well-attended anniversary lunch was held at Sutton Green Golf Club on 20 September, bringing together Lions members, guests and representatives from neighbouring clubs.
Woking Lions president Emma Brawley hosted the occasion, warmly welcoming guests and helping to make the anniversary a truly memorable celebration.
During the event, Emma was presented with a special Certificate of Appreciation, signed by their Patron, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and presented by past chair of council Alastair Joel.
Past district governors Steve Carley, Ian Forbes, Pete Dilloway and Paul Withers also joined for the commemorative photograph.
The Mayor of Woking, Cllr Rob Leach, attended to show support for the special celebration and was presented with a cheque for £400 for his chosen charities, The Youth Theatre and Phoenix Cultural Centre.
The day was further supported by local businesses and residents to put on a successful raffle, raising an amazing £348 for local causes.
The club extends a big thank you to Cate and Gregg from The Remedy Acoustic with Woking Music, Lily and Myrtle (who also provided the flowers), John Lewis, White House Dental Practice (The Gosling), Basil and Blue, and Eagle Digital Print Limited for their printing support.
