Gordon’s GCSE stars celebrate a haul of top grades

Smiles, hugs and happy tears greeted GCSE results day at Gordon’s on Thursday, as students celebrated a set of results which kept the school among the country’s top performers for value-added.

More than 89 per cent of students achieved five passes including English and maths, while 100 per cent of students taking BTEC Level 2 exams achieved grades from D* to P.

Among those celebrating were Honours students Neela Iyer, who achieved nine grade 9s, and Nathanial Teeton, who secured eight.

Gifted public speaker and debater Neela couldn’t believe it when she opened her results, while Nathanial was celebrating after another successful year combining academic achievement with his passions outside the classroom.

A regular performer with the school’s Wynter Bee Theatre, Nathanial also reports for the school magazine and is a member of the Pipes and Drums Band. Last year, he met the King after performing at Windsor Castle.

Other students picking up results included members of the National Youth Theatre, London Pulse Netball and England Hockey Talent Academy, alongside school cricketers and members of the golf team.

Overall, 53 per cent of GCSE entries were graded 9-7, 84 per cent achieved grades 9-5 and 93 per cent achieved grades 9-4.

The results also saw Gordon’s remain in the top five per cent of schools nationally for GCSE Value-Added – a measure comparing students’ actual grades with their statistically predicted results.

Headmaster Andrew Moss said: “Another set of pleasing GCSE grades, achieved through resilience, determination and hard work. I am delighted that the efforts of both staff and students have been reflected in the results.”

The non-selective, co-educational day and boarding school also celebrated strong A Level results last week, with 91 per cent achieving A*-C, two students securing Oxbridge places, two heading to study medicine or dentistry and 90 per cent winning places at their first-choice universities.
