Woking manager Craig Ross had mixed emotions after his side beat Leicester City’s under-21s on penalties in their National League Cup group stage match.

The Cards won 4-3 on penalties after drawing 2-2 against the Foxes in front of a crowd of 141 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

Ross was disappointed with his side’s first-half performance, but was pleased with how they responded in the second half.

“I thought we were poor in the first half, our intensity and tempo wasn't good enough,” said Ross.

“These games and nights are difficult at times because there's not a great atmosphere and you have to drive yourself and drive each other to create that tempo and energy from within the group.

“I was disappointed with the first half. At half-time, we asked for a reaction in the second half. I think we got that.

“We were a lot more aggressive in our press. We played down the sides more and tried to hurt Leicester in behind more, which is where our goals came from.

“It was disappointing in the first half, but I was pleased with the reaction in the second half.”

Caleb Richards and Sean Adarkwa both made their returns from injury for Woking against Leicester, and Ross was pleased to see both players back out on the pitch getting vital minutes.

“It was obviously great to have Caleb back in,” said Ross. “He's been chomping at the bit to get going again.

“Sean Adarkwa has been missing since the first game of the season.

“It was good to get him back on the pitch getting minutes. It was pleasing for both them boys.

“They're going to only strengthen us. If we can get them up to speed as quickly as we can, they'll be options for us.”
