Woking manager Craig Ross rued fine margins after his side slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Harrogate Town in the National League.
Ellis Taylor’s 32nd-minute goal was enough to give the visitors all three points in front of a crowd of 2,464 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
“The main emotions are frustration and disappointment,” said Ross.
“I don't think we we were at our best, but we certainly weren't at our worst. We were somewhere in between.
“Harrogate came here second in the league and we didn’t give them anything.
“It was a game that was balanced and was going to be decided on fine margins, whether that be a set piece, a moment of magic, or a mistake.
“To come out with a 1-0 defeat is disappointing.
“Football's a frustrating game at times, because small errors or details can decide a game. It's fine margins.
“For us moving forward, our next evolution and progression is that we have to find different ways to win when we're not at our best.
“We have been at our best at times in recent weeks, against Eastleigh and Carlisle for instance.
“When you're at your best you win games nine times out of ten, but ultimately you can't be at your best every game.
“When we're good, we're very good. We can't score four or five every week, it's just not going to happen.
“Teams are going to set up against us to nullify our threats. We have to adapt to that and find different ways of winning.
“That's the thing we've got to focus on as our next progression.”
Despite the defeat, Ross was pleased with how his side competed against their high-flying opponents.
“We have different ways of playing and different formations that we can adapt to the opposition,” said Ross.
“With how Harrogate play, we felt by playing with Josh Kelly and Aiden O’Brien in the two tens there would be space for them to get on the ball and turn and get us playing forward, which there was, especially in the first half. They combined brilliantly a couple of times.
“I think how we set up worked. Our press worked, we just lacked that cutting edge and bit of quality in the final third.”
One negative for Woking from the Harrogate match was an injury to key centre-back Chin Okoli, and Ross admitted it was too soon to know the extent of the injury.
“It was a hamstring injury and it didn't look good,” said Ross.
“We have to get that scanned and checked over to see the extent of it.
“Our thoughts are with Chin at the minute. Hopefully, fingers crossed, it's not too long an injury.
“We'll wait to see on that front.”
