Learning disability and autism charity LinkAble welcomed more than 130 people to Woking Sportsbox for the third annual Inclusive Games last week.
The event began as a celebration inspired by the 2024 Paris Paralympics. LinkAble wanted to bring accessible sports to Woking, giving local disabled people the chance to try a range of adapted sports, with the hope they would feel confident trying them again — and have a brilliant day out!
Putting on the event takes a huge community effort, and would not have been possible without event partner Everyone Active, and supporters Wheels for All, Active Surrey, Surrey FA, The Fidelis Partnership, and many volunteers.
LinkAble also welcomed Will Forster MP and Mayor of Woking Cllr Rob Leach.
Participants praised the day, saying: “Great atmosphere with lots of friendly support,” and “Fun and inclusive."
Sue Stockman, CEO, LinkAble, said: “From adapted cycling, boccia and walking football to our new sports, adapted rounders and table tennis, everyone was able to take part, and we hope will want to play these sports again.”
Jay Jones, contract health activity & wellbeing manager, Everyone Active, added: “Seeing so many adults and young people with disabilities and additional needs come together to enjoy a day of sport and activity at the Linkable Inclusive Games was truly inspiring."
Philippa Curphey, regional manager for London & South, Wheels for All, said: “With almost 100 people trying our Wheels for All cycles for the first time, it was fantastic to see so many people of all ages and abilities having the opportunity to try a new activity.”
Simon Crone, group director of underwriting operations, The Fidelis Partnership, said: “This fantastic event brings people together through sport, community and fun. We were delighted to support the event for the third year running, with volunteers from The Fidelis Partnership helping.”
