A HORSELL school hosted a “takeover” of Woking junior parkrun on Sunday.

Pupils at St Andrew's were encouraged to take part in the parkrun and many parents and children helped to fill volunteer positions.

As the sun shone there was a record turnout, with 229 children completing the two-kilometre course.

St Andrew's students Zac (Year 8) and Jessica and Alice (both Year 4) delivered the course briefings and warm-up perfectly in front of a large crowd.

“All the children did extremely well and it was lovely to see the park filled with enthusiastic parents and friends cheering the children round the course,” said Jenny Taylor, a St Andrew's parent and Woking junior parkrun Run Director.

“Parkruns are occasionally 'taken over' by local athletic clubs and schools, although we haven't had one at Woking juniors since 2018.

“Some of the St Andrew’s children who regularly attend Woking junior parkrun remembered Goldsworth Primary hosting a takeover in 2018 and asked to do one for St Andrew's.

“We then spoke to the headmaster and other children to drum up support.”

Woking junior parkrun is a free, fun and friendly weekly two-kilometre event for four to 14-year-olds. It is held every Sunday at 9am at Woking Park.

It is free to join in but please register first and bring a scannable copy of your barcode.
