Woking scored two late goals to come from behind and earn a dramatic 3-2 win at home to AFC Fylde in the National League on Saturday.

Danny Ormerod and Harvey Broad were on target for the visitors, but goals from Matt Ward, Roy Syla and Taylan Harris fired the Cards to a thrilling win in front of a crowd of 2,088 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

Woking faced an in-form AFC Fylde side, who were promoted last season after romping to the National League North title and had picked up four points from their opening two league games.

The away side started the fixture with confidence, coming close in the first minute as Thomas Whelan poked wide after some fast, front-footed football, before testing the Woking defence with several corners and an offside goal from Cedric Main.

However, ten minutes in, Woking responded in electric fashion as Josh Ayres saw two goal-bound efforts blocked from close range, before Chinwike Okoli’s effort met a similar fate, following a Steven Turner free-kick.

The game quickly settled into an end-to-end encounter, with both sides giving as good as they got.

Ayres and Whelan both had further chances for their sides via a header and speculative half-volley. In addition, Main was inches away from connecting to a low cross, however both goalkeepers remained relatively untested.

That soon changed in the 37th minute, as the visitors took the lead.

Former Woking full-back Aaron Drewe’s cross found young striker Ormerod, whose looping header beat Cards keeper Will Jaaskalainen.

Woking pushed for an equaliser before half-time, with Okoli and Ayres both heading wide, but the visitors retained their slender lead at the interval.

The visitors came mightily close to doubling their advantage within five minutes of the start of the second half.

A defensive mix-up allowed Main to have an effort on goal from a one-on-one position, however, much to Woking’s relief, Main’s effort trickled wide of the post, before a low Danny Mayor effort rolled along the goal-line agonisingly wide.

Woking’s chances in the early stages of the second half were limited as they weathered the pressure from the visitors.

Shadrach Ogie headed wide in the 60th minute and Ayres struck a powerful effort towards Fylde keeper Zac Jones as the home side started to look more threatening.

This was soon followed by the equaliser for Woking.

Drewe’s header towards his goalkeeper was short, allowing Ward to nip in and curl the ball past Jones into the net to make it 1-1 in the 68th minute.

Fylde soon regained the lead five minutes later. After winning possession back, Greg Olley turned the ball across goal for Broad to slot home comfortably.

Woking levelled the match once more in the 90th minute, when Harris’ ball across the face of goal was confidently swept home by Syla from close range.

The Cards found a winner in stoppage time when Harris slotted home to complete the comeback and seal the three points for Woking.
