The Woking & District Sports Quiz League is seeking new players and/or teams. The quiz is hosted every Thursday night at West End Social Club, at 2 High St, GU24 9PL.
“The 2026-27 season, from September to March, starts on 24 September at 7.45pm, so everyone who loves their sport is welcome to come along,” said committee member Simon Woodbridge.
“We are looking for either new teams, up to four players per team, or individuals who can join existing teams.”
The Woking & District Sports Quiz League has run continuously for 35 years, with the exception of one season lost to Covid. During the mid-1990s it had a high of 17 teams but is now down to six.
Brian Woodbridge, then chairman of Meadow Sports, decided to arrange a sports quiz for local clubs to help generate money through entry fees and bar takings. An advertisement in a local newspaper attracted some 30 teams.
The event ran for about three years until a regular sports quiz league was proposed, with 11 teams signing up.
For the inaugural season, 1991-92, the teams were divided into three divisions, with promotion and relegation. The league initially grew to 17 teams but is now run as a single division.
“It’s only £10 per person for the whole season, and, as it’s a social club, the bar prices are very reasonable!”
