Sheerwater exited the FA Vase with a 3-1 defeat at AFC Greenwich Borough in the first qualifying round.

The Sheers went 1-0 up on ten minutes when Callum Mackie drilled the ball into the home side’s penalty area and Elliot York fired his finish into the roof of the net.

The lead didn’t last long, as the hosts levelled the scores in the 15th minute through Josh Shonibare.

The Borough took the lead on 25 minutes when Abel Vendrells’ cross found Harry Revill, who placed his shot past Sheers keeper Joe Hill.

The hosts finished the first half strongly and nearly went 3-1 up when Vendrells’ cross-shot skimmed the crossbar.

The Borough did score their third in the 67th minute when Stefan Payne had a free run at goal and tucked the ball past Hill.

The Sheers had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back with four minutes remaining when they were awarded a penalty, but Harvey Valter’s spot kick was saved by home keeper Peter Balogun.
