Musicians will come together for a one-off charity concert in Woking honouring the life and legacy of Rick Buckler, the legendary drummer from The Jam.
Friends, family and fans of The Jam are set to flock to the concert at Woking Theatre on Monday, 12 October.
Rick Buckler: Music, Memories and The Jam will feature live music and stories to remember the iconic drummer. The event will be raising funds for Woking & Sam Beare Hospice Wellbeing Care, who cared for Rick in his final days in February 2025.
Amongst the early confirmed artists are a Band called Malice, Steve Brookes, The Highliners, Pretty Green and famous modcast DJ Eddie Pillar will entertain the audience.
The evening will be hosted by well-known Radio DJ and presenter Mike Read. Steve will also share his memories about the early days of The Jam.
The Jam fans will also have the privilege of hearing stories from guests including Dennis Munday, who worked at Polydor Records, and Peter Wilson, who worked as a producer for the band.
Rick’s Premier white drum kit will be played by the musicians throughout the evening.
Rick’s daughter, Holly Buckler, said: “We are so grateful as a family for the incredible support and love shown for Dad. This event is an opportunity to bring together fans, friends and fellow musicians to celebrate an amazing drummer and the lasting legacy Rick leaves behind.
“We feel privileged to donate all profits from the event to Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care, a charity very close to our family. The care, compassion and support they gave us meant a great deal and we are very grateful.
“The evening promises to be a very special event of music, memories and stories celebrating Rick’s life and career. We hope everyone who joins us will have a fantastic time and help a great cause.”
Bruce Foxton, bassist in The Jam, said: “I feel very lucky and privileged to have known Rick and to have performed with him as much as I did over the years. His drumming was an integral part of the band and is still admired by his peers and enjoyed by fans all over the world.
“This memorial night will be a fitting tribute to his memory. We had a lot of laughs over the years and it’s a part of my life that I’ll remember and cherish forever.”
Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care charity specialises in delivering holistic care for patients with complex life-limiting and terminal illnesses. Every year, staff care for around 2,000 patients, carers and family members.
Tammy Stracey, the hospice’s interim CEO and clinical director, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Rick’s family and friends for their support of the hospice.
“As a charity, we need to raise two-thirds of our funding ourselves, and we could not provide the exceptional free care we do without the generosity of supporters such as Rick’s family. We hope the evening is a great success, bringing together friends, family, and fans to celebrate Rick’s remarkable life and enduring legacy.”
Memorabilia from the About The Young Idea exhibition will also be on display in the theatre foyer from 5.30pm.
Guests will have the chance to see some items that have never been on display for the public before. You are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy this piece of the band’s history.
