AS TIME ploughs on and summer begins its inevitable wind down, Derry’s Field swung open its gates to gift locals what could be a final seasonal hurrah.

Among the guests were Karen and Laurence from Transform Housing in Woking: the pair manned the tombola stands and dished out prizes to lucky winners.

Also ‘on home turf’ was allotment owner Vince Gradwell, who has also penned a book entitled All Year Plants in Flower. Although it is too soon for any official tally to be announced, organisers hope that this year’s efforts will eclipse the £2,000 raised for Woking Hospice in 2014.

Tony Harding, Allotment Association Chairman, said:  “Our aim the day to engage with the local community, to let them see what we do and what is produced on this fantastic allotment. We also try and raise as much as we can for the hospice which is again our chosen charity. The members enjoy working together to show off a little and lay on a good show. This year everything came together really well.”
