STAFF at Hoe Bridge School celebrated the end of their 25th anniversary year with a glitzy ball and £40,000 donation to worthy causes.

The black tie bash and presentation was held in a marquee in the grounds of the Old Woking school, and was held to mark a significant chapter in the institution’s history.

And after a full school year of memorable visits and events, headteacher Nick Arkell said it was good to give something back.

He added: “It has been a wonderful experience and I am so proud of all that the children have done to raise this money for the charities.

“It was fantastic to be able to give nearly £40,000 to worthy causes. We are so grateful to all those who helped us.”

The 2012-2013 academic year, the school’s Silver Jubilee, has been a busy one for teachers and pupils. Creative hands helped craft a giant commemorative quilt which now adorns the school walls.

And in April, the fearless, free-falling Red Devils dropped in on pupils, successfully touching down in the school grounds after two jumps had been postponed because of bad weather.

This time around though, the dress code was black as 360 guests were treated to an evening of style, fun and entertainment.

In September, pupils cast a vote for two charities they would support over the year, and dec-ided that all fundraising during the Silver Jubilee would be split between local organisation LinkAble and Plan International.

Between them they were presented with around £40,000 of Hoe Bridge goodwill last week.

Mr Arkell added: “The charities have pledged that the money will be used for major projects in the organisations.”
