ENTHUSIASM was in full bloom at Pyrford & Wisley’s annual Flower Show.

Guests got into the groove of the swinging ‘60s-themed celebrations, with hundreds turning out for the 66th show.

Woking MP Jonathan Lord, who was one of the many to meander among the sunlit sea of stalls and displays over the weekend, revealed that he looks forward to the event all year.

He said: “The Pyrford & Wisley Flower Show is always the highlight of the summer and it is terrific that the sun has come out this time.” Entertainment was provided by the swing band from Pyrford Primary School, Latin American dance troupes, pumped up cheerleaders and The Sixties Replays band.

The colts from the local cricket team even put on a game to show off their skills with willow and leather. And there were prizes for the best looking veg.

Nine-year-old Annabel Limbert, crowned Flower Princess last week, performed her duties admirably, ably assisted by attendants Sophie Eliadis and Chloe Godwin, both eight.

Mayor Anne Roberts said: “The Flower Princess and her attendants looked lovely – it is a great opportunity to meet together as a community.”

For the children’s fancy dress competition, tie-dye T-shirts and psychedelic prints marched their way from Dane Court to the cricket ground in Coldharbour Road, where their efforts were rewarded by a panel of judges, including Nicky Cox MBE, Editor of First News, a weekly newspaper for kids.

She said: “It is amazing that the flower show has been going for 66 years – it really says a lot about the community. We have also been very lucky with the weather.”

A total of eight trophies were dished out for the days’ best looking flowers and edibles, with Tina Ball clinching the The Women’s Institute Challenge Cup for her colourful campervan cake.

The outstanding sunshine was accompanied by a scout-run barbeque, while the strawberries and champagne tent drew in quite the crowd.

Stalls, cool refreshments and stunning horticultural displays helped to complete the show’s successful afternoon.
