A Bordon woman’s bid to make sure her husband got a card for each of his 95 years when he celebrated his birthday on June 21 exceeded her dreams – he ended up with 112!
Katherine Varden set herself the challenge at the beginning of May. She said: “There was no reason behind the 95 cards but I just thought that I would do something different and special as my husband, Alex, does not get out.
“Cards have arrived from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Holland, Sweden, Germany, Czech Republic, China, Peru, Malawi and India, as well as many from the UK. The total number of cards received is 112!
“Having hosted international university students for weekend visits, I have kept in touch with many of them, hence some interesting countries.
“There have been some nice messages and a number with memories shared. As his memory is failing I think he enjoyed having cards from his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren that were done with photos of them.”
