Woking manager Craig Ross praised his side’s character after they won 1-0 at Tamworth to pick up a fourth successive away win in the National League.

Harrison Sohna’s 90th-minute goal gave the Cards all three points in front of a crowd of 903 at the Lamb Ground.

“We controlled the game from minute one,” said Ross. “We never felt in any danger.

“What we asked of the lads, they took on board brilliantly.

“We looked at Tamworth during the week – they have been very good at home and we needed a way to dominate them.

“Our change of shape, playing a diamond, really hurt Tamworth.

“We thought if we can win the middle of the pitch and control the middle of the pitch, that's going to give us the best opportunity to control the game and not make it a transitional game, which is what Tamworth want.

“It gave us complete control of the game.”

Woking went in on level terms at half-time despite an impressive first-half performance, but Ross was confident his side would get their reward in the second half.

“I could see the lads getting a little bit frustrated in the first half,” said Ross.

“The message at half-time was to not get frustrated and not be disappointed that we weren’t two or three up.

“We wanted to dominate the ball. We asked the lads to be patient and move Tamworth for the gaps to open up that we could then go and exploit.

“Tamworth were going to sit in and be hard to beat, so it was about us being patient.

“I’m really pleased the lads kept believing, kept digging in and didn't give up. To score a late winner is fully deserved. They fully deserved the win for the performance and the control we had in the game.”

Ross was particularly pleased with how his side adapted to their change in shape.

“It’s something we worked on,” said Ross.

“It’s not easy for lads to pick up a shape with new messages and new roles, but they were absolutely tremendous and did it to absolute perfection.

“As staff, we have to find solutions that are going to give the players the best chance to win the game.

“The decision paid off, and it was the right one. Full credit to everyone involved, because that was a group and club effort. I’m really pleased with the all-round performance.”

Woking have suffered from an unprecedented injury crisis in recent weeks, and Ross is delighted with how his side have responded to that adversity.

“It’s not been an easy few weeks by any stretch, but for us to come out with the points total and performances we have done is credit to the group,” said Ross.

“We’ve found solutions, dug in and showed character. We deal with the hands we’re dealt and make the best of it. We don't complain, and we've got the rewards from that.”

Ross was also delighted to send the travelling fans home happy with another away win.

“The fans have been with us every step of the way,” said Ross. “I think they can feel and see the commitment the lads are putting in. They appreciate that.”
