Woking manager Craig Ross was delighted after his side picked up an impressive 3-1 win at Eastleigh in the National League.

Goals from John Marquis and Liam Dulson (2) saw the Cards come from behind to earn all three points in front of a crowd of 2,334 at the Silverlake Stadium.

Aaron Blair gave the Spitfires an early lead, before Marquis equalised from the penalty spot. Cards keeper Will Jaaskelainen then saved Blair’s penalty, before Dulson scored twice in the second half.

Ross was disappointed with the goal his side conceded, but was delighted with their response.

“The lads were on a different page with each other for Eastleigh’s goal,” said Ross.

“Shadrach Ogie has taken a short throw-in, but we were set for a long throw. We have to communicate and be on the same page.

“Eastleigh were able to break on us because we weren't set behind the ball. There are lessons to learn from that.

“We knew Eastleigh would be quick on the transition, especially with Blair. I’m disappointed with the goal, but the response after it was fantastic. The lads responded brilliantly.”

Marquis equalised before the break, and Ross was pleased with how his side kicked on in the second half to claim all three points.

“We changed formation to a 4-3-3 at half-time, so our wingers could go and play up against Eastleigh’s full-backs,” said Ross.

“We thought they were hurting them – Josh Kelly and Matt Wardy dominated those one-against-one battles.

“We are getting stronger and we do finish games strongly, which is great.

“If we're in the game late on, there's belief in the group that we've got the ability to come back from conceding a goal. We've done that multiple times this season, scored a lot of late goals and finished games strongly.

“As long as we're in the game, we keep pushing and we believe we'll get something out of it.”

Dulson scored twice to give the Cards the victory, and Ross was full of praise for his performance.

“Liam has probably been a little bit frustrated with himself in terms of not getting the numbers in terms of goals and assists he might want at this stage of the season,” said Ross.

“He's a great lad – he works hard. We want our forwards and opposite wide players making the back post, because that's where we feel we'll get chances, and Liam’s taken one for his first goal.

“Liam’s second goal is a great counter-attacking goal. We've got pace and athleticism in our team – we transition quickly.

“We won the ball back in midfield and flew forward. I back us in those situations at the top end of the pitch to go and make them count, and we did.

“To a man, the lads were brilliant. That was Eastleigh’s first defeat at home this season – it's never going to be easy here.

“The way Eastleigh play, they put you under pressure. For us to stand up to that challenge was always going to be important. We competed for everything and then let our quality show.

“We have to back up wins and performances, and be relentless in everything we do. It's on us to keep maintaining our levels.”
