Why we sent

in the clowns

Rotary Club of Woking had an Easter Collection at Morrisons store on Easter Saturday.

To celebrate the occasion some of our members dressed as clowns and Easter bunnies. We also gave dogs made from balloons to children.

The collection was very successful and raised more than £300 including gift aid.

All the money collected will go to local charities. One of the club’s current local projects is Cut Out Cancer, a project which brings together a number of Rotary clubs in the Woking, Guildford and Waverley areas who are jointly financing the purchase of surgical robots and operating tables for Royal Surrey Hospital’s oncology unit.

Royal Surrey has the fourth largest regional cancer unit in the UK and is regarded as a centre of excellence.

The club would like to thank Morrisons for kindly allowing it to collect money at their store and also to our volunteer collectors who put in many hours.

Thank you

Marie Curie in the Goldsworth Park area want to thank everyone involved in making the 2026 Great Daffodil Appeal a great success.

The fundraising appeal, which took place between 1 February and 30 April, saw lots of local volunteers collecting donations for the charity, in return for a daffodil pin.

All funds raised will help Marie Curie provide vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones, in their own homes.

In Goldsworth Park £1,057.59 was raised. Sophy Alexander, community fundraiser for Surrey, said: “We cannot continue to deliver the vital care and support people living with a terminal illness so desperately need without the extraordinary generosity of the public.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to our fantastic collectors who go above and beyond every single year. Their ongoing commitment makes such a meaningful difference.”

For more information on how you can get involved in the next Great Daffodil Appeal or our collections please contact Sophy by email at [email protected], phone 07591389046 or phone Marie Curie on 0800 304 7025.

As Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May) approaches, I would like to encourage readers to join us in taking action to support their mental wellbeing.

We have been running Mental Health Awareness Week for 25 years, helping to break the silence around mental health and promoting an openness which has improved people’s lives.

But awareness alone isn’t enough. This year, we’re focusing on action because the small things we do each day can make a big difference to how we feel. Whether that’s asking for support, taking time to do things that are good for your wellbeing, or checking in on someone else.

Together, we can shape our workplaces, schools, and communities so everyone feels supported.

Visit mentalhealth.org.uk/action for information, resources and advice as we encourage you to take action for good mental health this Mental Health Awareness Week – for yourself, for someone else, for all of us.
