PEDAL4CHARITY are urging charity supporters to join their cycling crusade with a twist.

Keen to address to issues of cyclists who hold fears over long-distance rides, the group have created the Horsell 200, once again in aid of Woking Hospice.

On July 3 riders will leave the Cricketers Pub in Horsell to take on 200 miles in four days, traversing some of the most breathtaking countryside in the South of England on a circular route, returning three days later. In the spirit of ‘amateurism’ entrants will stop at a number of watering holes on the way. A statement said: “Riders don’t need to be a fanatical cyclist, enthusiasm and a sense of humour will be far more important.

“Hotel accommodation has been pre-booked, and a support vehicle will be in attendance to provide any emergency cover, carry luggage and provide a secure bike lock-up for the evening.”

To register, participants will have to pay £200 to cover the hotel accommodation (based on two sharing a twin room), team cycling shirt, support vehicle, and a very natty polo shirt for evening wear. Food and drink will be the only extra costs. A team Just Giving fundraising page will be set up, and each team member is expected to raise a minimum of £500 plus gift aid.

Places are strictly limited to just 24, and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The route may involve some towpaths so is not ideal for high-spec racing bikes. Over a six-year period Pedal4Charity, set up to boost the hospice with annual cycling events, have raised upwards of £180,000.
