October is Guiding for Good month across London and the South East, and Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers in Woking and Send have been busy proving that girls can do anything, while having a brilliant time doing it.
Members have gathered cat food for Byfleet Cat Rescue at their feline harvest festival, and a Macmillan bake off was a big hit with the girls and raised more than £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Wildlife has been a big theme too. With hedgehogs starting to look for places to hibernate, the girls have been busy building hedgehog boxes to give them a cosy, safe home.
The group have also been practising their recycling skills by turning old books into cute paper hedgehogs, and they teamed up with the Surrey Bat Group to learn all about bat conservation.
Closer to home, the girls visited The Lighthouse in Woking to see the fantastic facilities available to local people, and have been supporting Woking Food Bank to help neighbours who need it.
Brownies in Send also took part in a first aid day, learning how to call 999, practising the recovery position, treating wounds and burns, CPR and understanding invisible illnesses.
Guiding is about friendship, adventure and learning new skills, but it is also about looking out for others, whether they have two legs, four legs, or wings. Every small act of kindness adds up.
The girls are keen for others to come and join them. Could your daughter be their next hedgehog house builder, first aid hero or star baker?
Girls aged 4 to 18 are welcome, no experience needed, just a sense of fun. They also need volunteers!
Find your nearest unit at girlguiding.org.uk and join the adventure.
