FOOTBALL: THERE was plenty of ‘six’ appeal down at Loop Road on Saturday as Old Wokingians’ six-a-side summer tournament kicked-off in style.

Goals, goals and more goals were the order of the day for talented amateurs from across the borough, each doing what they do best in the search for silverware.

In the end it was Meadow Sports B – fittingly playing on their home turf – who clinched cup glory in the annual contest.

It meant back-to-back tournament wins for Dan Thorogood, who only last week scored in the final as Harrison’s Boys secured victory in the Chobham Burymead tournament.

Meanwhile, putting a dreadfully poor season in Combined Counties Division One behind them, a team representing Sheerwater secured a trophy in the Plate competition. Dozens of teams helped make the event a hit, with refreshments and some silky skills scoring big points with the masses of supporters who came out to lend their voices and backing to friends and family.
