Residents and staff at a Woking care home rolled out the red carpet for a very special guest as much-loved dog Mr Darcy celebrated his seventh birthday.

The four-legged VIP was treated to a birthday celebration at Weystone Manor Care Home after becoming a firm favourite with residents during his regular visits.

Mr Darcy belongs to Debbie, the daughter of resident Viv, and has set tails wagging whenever he stops by.

To mark his milestone birthday, Weystone Manor’s Activities Coordinator Megan teamed up with residents to decorate the home’s bistro and create a special party atmosphere.

The celebrations saw Mr Darcy presented with a selection of tasty meat treats before residents, staff and Debbie joined together for a lively rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’.

General Manager Abdul Rifai said the occasion was a chance to celebrate the joy Mr Darcy brings to everyone at the home.

“Mr Darcy brings immense joy to everyone here during his visits with our resident’s daughter,” he said.

“Animal companionship provides incredible comfort and mental stimulation for our residents. Helping his family celebrate his seventh birthday with Megan’s wonderful activities was the perfect way to show him how much he means to our entire Weystone Manor family.”

The event formed part of the care home’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences that bring residents, families and staff together.

Staff said animal visits can have a positive impact on residents, offering comfort, stimulation and opportunities to create shared memories.

Weystone Manor provides residential, dementia and respite care for 62 residents and is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers.

For residents at Weystone Manor, Mr Darcy’s special day proved that sometimes the smallest guests can make the biggest impression.
