Ash is a poet... and he knows it!

Performance poet Ash Dickinson visited Woking College to give a poetry masterclass recently.

The wordsmith, best known for his Edinburgh Fringe and Cheltenham Literature Festival accolades, among countless others, visited Woking College for the first time on Wednesday last week.

Ash was also good enough to run a workshop for those studying English, and announce the winners of the college’s annual Creative Writing contest. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Adventures’, and prizes were awarded in two categories.

Short Story winner was Caitlyn Ward’s Legends, with Emily Sumpter’s A Sense of Misadventure earning her the runner-up gong. Meanwhile, Yelita Ali’s Mi Adven-tura edged out Kelly-Ann Platt’s The Adventure in the Poetry classification.

Richard Vardy, Head of English at the Rydens Way college, said: “It is great to have such an influential poet visit us and share his creative processes with our students.

“The standard of this year’s Creative Writing entries were exceptional.”
