Five months after a violent street assault in Egham left three Surrey residents seriously injured, the victims say they are still waiting for answers, amid growing frustration over the lack of progress in the police investigation.
The attack happened on the afternoon of October 15, 2025 in New Wickham Lane, where officers were called following reports of multiple assaults against the West Surrey Palestine Solidarity Campaign (WSPSC), who were reportedly peacefully protesting the genocide in Gaza.
Among those injured was Waqas Ali, aged 32, who lives in Woking and was assaulted during an incident captured on video. Another victim, Nick Georges, aged 74, who lives in Guildford, suffered serious head injuries, including a fractured skull. A third Surrey resident was also assaulted during the same incident.
Campaigners say video footage of the attack has been widely circulated on social media and that it clearly shows multiple assaults taking place. They also claim they have provided police with additional material, including images of vehicles and an address they believe is linked to individuals who left the scene.
The victims, supported by the West Surrey Palestine Solidarity Campaign (WSPSC), say they understand that one person was initially arrested shortly after the incident but was later released without charge. They also say they have been told this individual was not the person later identified by members of the public through online footage. A second suspect has been identified, though campaigners say there has been no confirmation of any arrest or interview in relation to that person.
In a joint statement, a spokesperson for the victims and WSPSC said they felt frustrated by the lack of progress.
“It is now more than five months since this violent assault, yet no one has been charged,” the spokesperson said. “A 74-year-old man suffered a fractured skull, and others were also injured. We have provided video evidence and further information, but there has been no clear update on where the investigation stands.”
They have also questioned why there has been no public appeal for identification of suspects based on the footage and have asked which senior officer is overseeing the case.
In response to enquiries, Surrey Police said officers were called to New Wickham Lane at around 5.15pm on October 15, 2025, following reports of multiple assaults.
A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “Two men were punched, and a third man was assaulted causing serious injuries to his head.”
The force also confirmed: “A second suspect has been identified and enquiries are ongoing to trace him.”
Police added that an 18-year-old man from Egham was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and common assault on the day of the incident, but following investigation, no further action is being taken against him.
In correspondence with Surrey’s Chief Constable, Tim De Meyer, the victims and WSPSC referenced his public comments on the importance of bringing offenders to justice to maintain public confidence in policing.
The victims and campaigners are now calling for a fuller update on the investigation, including clarification of what steps have been taken and assurances that all lines of enquiry are being pursued.
Police say enquiries remain ongoing and have urged anyone with information to contact them, quoting PR45250125674.
