Godolphin’s King’s Trail enhanced his glowing credentials with victory at Kempton in the mile conditions race on Saturday afternoon to maintain trainer Charlie Appleby’s unbeaten record at the course this season, having saddled all three runners to victory.

The son of Sea The Stars will bid to follow in the footsteps of Notable Speech, who won this race for the same connections before landing the 2,000 Guineas in 2024.

The three-year-old won in likeable fashion on his debut over course and distance back in December and made it back-to-back wins after a one-length success over Conclave under Billy Loughnane, who has announced he will appeal against his 21-day ban he recently received from the stewards.

John and Thady Gosden recorded their third winner of the year in Britain from just nine runners when Gamrai landed the £100,000 Rosebery Handicap under Rob Hornby.

The lightly raced four-year-old tracked 9-4 favourite Respond before taking up the running in the straight and stretching clear for a comfortable three-length success.

Having been gelded over the winter, he put up a much improved effort on his last-time-out fourth at Nottingham in October.

There was a blanket finish to the opening race on the card with Defence Minister running on strongly to lead inside the final furlong to win by a length from Cogitate.

The long round trip of 490 miles proved well worthwhile after the Charlie Johnston-trained Align The Stars got the better of Blindedbythelights by a length and three quarters in the Class Two Queens Prize.

With a furlong to go the race could have gone either way, but Blindedbythelights kept hanging to the left and ended up finishing second for the third time in a row.

Pina Sonata set a career best winning mark of 94 after landing the one mile fillies’ listed race for Newmarket trainer James Fanshawe.

Travelling well, the filly led two furlongs out before being pushed out in the final furlong to win cosily with Daniel Muscutt in the plate.

A seasonal return after 216 days off proved successful for Spinning Lizzie who scored in the one mile fillies’ conditional stakes after coming from the rear of the field to snatch victory by a neck.
