BYFLEET has at last been draped in magnificent blue to recognise the contribution of two of the village’s most influential residents.

Thanks to the Byfleet Heritage Society, a long overdue Blue Heritage Plaque commemorating Frederick Cornelius Stoop and his wife Agnes MacFarlane Stoop has been installed at the Village Hall.

Frederick, who is of Dutch heritage, and Agnes were held in high-esteem locally and were responsible for providing finance for the construction of the local Village Hall, two boathouses along the Wey Navigation Canal, cricket club, and St John’s Church in West Byfleet.

Among the other dignitaries in attendance were Woking MP Jonathan Lord, Deputy Mayoress Anne Murray, her consort Councillor Mike Smith, and Daphne Thissen from the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Netherlands.
