WEST END savoured a crowning moment on Saturday when the village’s annual fete returned with a more than popular theme.
To mark The Queen’s 90th birthday, event organisers took the opportunity to add a splash of royal prestige to their celebrations and invited visitors to deck themselves in jewels and shining crowns.
The odd famous face, such a Prince William, could also be spied among the crowd, although reports of an actual royal stopping by proved to be only a cut-out mask.
Prizes were dished out to the best dressed entrants, with judges forced into some tough decision over the eventual champs.
The party, which unfolded on Tringham Recreation Ground, then kept punters entertained with a sparkling menu of shows, games and special guests.

Punch & Judy shows are never far from an English fete and the pair’s ongoing feud is as entertaining now as it has been for generations. Local Brownie and Scout groups were also in attendance to offer their services where required but a real surprise appearance was made by Marvel comic book hero Spiderman.
Perhaps hoping to catch a glimpse of The Queen and grab a picture for his scrapbook, the unmistakable webslinger instead found himself the subject of attention.
As the latest addition to earth-defending The Avengers team, Spidey was more than happy to pose with excited youngsters who quizzed him on his amazing abilities and awesome crimefighting heroics.
