A RECORD number of punters pitched up to party on Saturday at Woking’s biggest outdoor community celebration.

Thousands packed into the Kingfield venue for this year’s Party in the Park to enjoy free, vintage-inspired entertainment, including live music and dancing, and to witness open-air screenings of Serena William’s Wimbledon win before watching the hit movie Grease.

For one gloriously sunny day, Woking Park transformed into a colourful festival of fun and frolics with something for everyone: from the Vintage Field, Main Stage, Food Village and traditional fairground rides, to a dance floor, outdoor cinema, children’s zone and farmyard, not to mention arts and crafts, classic cars, ice creams and refreshments.

Deputy Mayor Anne Murray welcomed guests as they poured through the gates, while King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys filled the air with rhythm ’n’ blues, and The King Cats and Surrey Jive made perfect dance partners.

Councillor Murray said: “The turnout was fantastic. It’s been a delight to see so many families making the most of the fabulous fun that came for free.”
