MEMBERS of the Shah Jahan Mosque collected an impressive £5,000 to help the many refugees of the migrant crisis living in terrible conditions known as ‘the Jungle’ across the Channel.
Volunteer Muhammad Habib told the News & Mail: “The Muslim community of Woking gave with open hearts as charity is one of the five pillars of our religion.”
The money was used to buy tents, blankets, winter clothing, food and medical aid. The volunteers took two vans packed to the hilt across the Channel last Friday which they successfully dropped off to grateful refugees.
Volunteers plan to take more aid in due course and are continuing collections. There is also an aid drop-off point at the mosque for donations. Muhammad added: “We feel it is very important to help others less fortunate than ourselves and will continue this initiative.”
