Old Woking Cricket Club was buzzing as it hosted its first ladies’ softball cricket festival, bringing together six local teams for a fun filled celebration of women’s cricket.
The festival was organised by Old Woking player Kate Cousins, with the aim of bringing local ladies’ teams together, encouraging more women to discover cricket and above all, enjoying a great day of sport and friendship.
Six teams took to the field, with club volunteers generously giving their time to umpire and score the matches. There was plenty of action throughout the day, with wickets falling, sixes flying and some fantastic catches keeping players and spectators entertained.
The cricket was only part of the fun, with music playing throughout the day, the bar open for refreshments and the barbecue serving up plenty of food. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere made it a great advert for the fun and inclusive side of ladies’ cricket.

The teams were competing for a brand-new festival shield which was eventually won by Valley End after a closely-fought competition.
Old Woking Blues finished second in the competition, while Woking & Horsell finished third, Epsom finished fourth, Ottershaw finished fifth, and Old Woking Yellows finished sixth.
Organisers congratulated Valley End and thanked all the teams, volunteers, supporters and everyone who played a part in making the inaugural festival such a success.
Old Woking Cricket Club is already looking forward to growing the festival and making it even bigger and better next year.

If the festival has inspired any local ladies to give cricket a try, all ages and abilities are welcome, including ladies who are new to the game and those who are experienced players.
