Say the word ‘wireless’ these days and chances are it will have something to do with technology or Wi-Fi.

But theatregoers of a certain age will remember the days when it meant listening to the radio, and tuning into a comedy classic “many, many times”.

Pyrford Little Theatre is taking a trip down memory lane as they’re performing an adaptation of Round The Horne.

Fans of the 60s radio show can get reacquainted with the likes of Julian and Sandy, Rambling Syd Rumpo and J. Peasemold Gruntfuttock next Friday and Saturday (August 28 and 29) from 7.45pm in the village hall.

Steve Dorsett is playing Kenneth Horne in the show created by Barry Took and Marty Feldman and adapted for stage by Tim Astley. Dan Ash will step into the shoes of Kenneth Williams, while Mark Tyson, Claire Turner and Jonathan Howell will perform as Douglas Smith, Betty Marsden and Hugh Paddick, respectively.

The stage will be transformed into a mock BBC Radio theatre for the show directed by Mike Ashworth and Mina Crowe. There will be much to enjoy for fans of the orginal with plenty of fun, laughter, risqué chat and daft songs.

“We will be recreating the live recordings of a couple of episodes of this classic BBC radio show,” said a spokesperson for the theatre.

“Be transported back to the 1960s as you take your seats and watch comedy magic being created.

“Learn a little "Polari" language from Sandy and Jules, some country wisdom from J Peasemould Gruntfuttock, experience brief encounters between Fiona and Charles, and much, much more.”

The production has even attracted regional attention with Dorsett chatting about the show on the Allison Ferns Breakfast Show on Sunday.
