WOKING Lions Club has hosted a special party to thank the marshals and other helpers at its Fun Run in the summer.
The Fun Run, the first event of its kind organised by the Woking Lions, raised nearly £1,250 for community causes. Some 141 runners took part on 7 August across Horsell Common and Fairoaks Airport in a 10km and 5km race.
During the thank you party at the Horsell Bowling Club evening, club president John Cooper thanked all the helpers and said that “without your help we could never have put on this Fun Run”.
Mr Cooper added that “following the most encouraging comments received after the run, Woking Lions intends to put on a similar run next year, probably in June”. He thanked Horsell Common and Fairoaks for the use of their facilities and also thanked all his fellow Lions, and particularly Majid Qayyum, for all their input.
He presented cheques for £300 to Woking Shopmobility and Woking District Scouts, and £150 each to Girl Guiding Woking East Division and Girl Guiding Woking West Division.
