Mr Waite was famously held hostage in Lebanon in 1987 for nearly five years. He had been travelling as envoy for the Church of England to try to secure the release of four British hostages – including journalist John McCarthy – when he was kidnapped in Beirut.

The Prestige Lecture Evening will be held at WWF-UK’s Brewery Road headquarters on the evening of Wednesday, September 24. There will be a tour of the Living Planet Centre before the lecture starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £20 but places are limited. To order, email rotary.wd@hotmail.co.uk with your full name and address and the number of tickets required.
