To enable the statues to be manoeuvred into position, the nearside lane of Victoria Way will close between 9.30am and 12.30pm, and access to Brewery Road Car Park will close from 11.30am to 3.30pm. Exits will remain open at all times. The bridge will be closed again on Monday (June 8) between 10am and 12.30pm while the unveiling ceremony is completed. Members of the public are welcome to witness the ceremony – at which former PM Sir John Major will be a special guest – from 11.15am.

A council statement said: “During the temporary bridge closures, cyc-lists and pedestrians are kindly asked to use an alternative route via Chobham Road. Signage will be in place.

“Woking Borough Council would like to thank cyclists and pedestrians for their patience during the temporary closures.”
