THE Black Cat Opera Company will return to the Electric Theatre in Guildford with a new production of Mozart’s Così fan Tutte.
The comic opera follows the story of two young men (played by Matthew Palmer and James Savage-Hanford) who are manipulated into attempting to prove their love and fidelity of their betrothed (Aoife O’Connell and Claire Filer) by the wry puppet-master Don Alfonso (Gheorghe Palcu) and the girls’ maid Despina (Clare Treacey) – with darkly hilarious consequences.
Musical Director Peter Ford says this latest version of Cosi is packed full of Mozart’s ‘brilliant wit and emotional honesty’. He says: “Though the darker and more troubling aspects of the music and text are being allowed to shine through, there has been a lot of laughter in rehearsals as the piece is, at its heart, profoundly hilarious.”
And don’t panic… although the shows will be sung in its traditional Italian form, there will English subtitles to accompany the performances.
Guildford’s Electric Theatre will be hosting Così fan Tutte from Wednesday (December 9) until Friday, December 11. Tickets are available from the theatre Box Office by calling 01483 444789, or via their website at guildford.gov.uk/electrictheatre.
