PYRFORD Little Theatre are thinking big with their latest offering.
Dick Whittington arrived at the village hall last week and has received rave reviews for its colourful set and equally as mesmerising cast.
The show, directed by Tony Bushell, is the traditional story of a poor boy from the country who comes to London to find fame and fortune, but initially finds only a feline friend and disgrace plus separation from the girl he loves.
A voyage to foreign shores only means further disaster, but washed up on the beaches of Morocco, Dick’s cat Tommy rids the Sultan’s palace of rats.
Riches are Dick’s reward and he returns to London in triumph, claims the girl he loves as his bride and becomes Lord Mayor of London.
In this show you will meet all the usual characters, while a talented cast, good music and dancing bring audiences excellent entertainment in friendly surroundings.
“It is a very good show with a lot of youngsters involved,” explained Tony, who wanted a strong youth contingent to be prominent in proceedings.
“It’s nice and colourful with great music and choreography – it has all come together very well.”
The cast have been in rehearsals since the beginning of November, and Tony has taken great care to make sure the play is fit for all audiences.
He added: “Why not come along and be entertained in a family atmosphere?
“There was a bit of smut in the script but I made sure to take that out as wanted people to know that it is suitable for everyone.”
There is still time to catch the show, with three more performances scheduled for today (Friday) and Saturday.
Friday’s show starts at 7.30pm, while the curtain goes up on Saturday’s matinee at 2.30pm and 7.30pm for the evening show.
